Dodecyl prop-2-enoate is a monomer that belongs to the chemical class of acrylates. It has been shown to have anti-cancer properties in vitro and in vivo. Dodecyl prop-2-enoate polymerizes upon heating, forming long chains of molecules. The phase transition temperature for this compound is -43 degrees Celsius. Dodecyl prop-2-enoate also has a low toxicity profile and is chemically stable. Acrylic acid is a byproduct of dodecyl prop-2-enoate hydrolysis that can be used as a surfactant for sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) or zirconium oxide. The reaction mechanism for dodecyl prop-2-enoate is the same as acrylic acid, but the reaction time is longer because it takes more energy to break the carbon bond than with acrylic acid.
