• Descripción: 2,3-Dimethyl-1,4-dihydronaphthalene-1,4-dione is a reactive compound that can be reduced to the corresponding 1,4-naphthoquinone. It has a redox potential of -0.11 V and is electron reducing. In vitro studies on rat liver microsomes have shown that 2,3-dimethyl-1,4-dihydronaphthalene-1,4-dione reduces NAD+ to NADH and oxidizes NADH back to NAD+. This compound has been shown to inhibit the growth of some bacteria and fungi in cell culture experiments. 2,3-Dimethyl-1,4-dihydronaphthalene-1,4-dione also has antiinflammatory properties that may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of prostaglandins by inhibiting cyclooxygenase activity.
