N,N-Dimethyl-2-naphthylamine is an organic compound that belongs to the group of anilines. It can be used as a reference molecule for the study of cross-coupling reactions and has been used in the synthesis of other compounds. The molecule is unsymmetrical, with a single electron withdrawing group on one end and a single electron donating group on the other end. N,N-Dimethyl-2-naphthylamine is soluble in chloroform and ether but not in water. The compound has shown fluorescence when excited by light at 340 nm wavelength. Titration of N,N-dimethyl-2-naphthylamine with sodium hydroxide solution produces a bright yellow coloration that can be observed using epifluorescence microscopy.
