Pyrophosphoric acid is a dinucleotide phosphate that consists of two phosphoric acid molecules. It has been used in wastewater treatment, the polymerase chain reaction, and as a reagent to introduce phosphates into biological samples. The chemical formula for pyrophosphoric acid is HPO3. Pyrophosphoric acid can be prepared by heating phosphorus pentoxide with water vapor in an activated reaction solution with a magnesium salt at high temperature.
