- 1-Bromobutan-2-Ol
- 2-Butanol, 1-bromo-
1-Bromo-2-butanol is a halide that is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals and other organic compounds. It is a substrate for the regulatory enzyme, genus, which catalyzes the conversion of 1-bromo-2-butanol to butyraldehyde. The enantiomer of 1-bromo-2-butanol has been shown to be an endocannabinoid (the natural ligand for cannabinoid receptors). 1-Bromo-2-butanol also serves as a competitive inhibitor of fatty acid amide hydrolase, which is involved in the degradation of endocannabinoids. This compound has been shown to inhibit some bacterial enzymes such as esterases and glucuronidases.
