Descripción:5-androsten-3-beta, 7-beta-diol-17-one is a metabolite of the androgenic steroid 5α-dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It has been detected in urine samples and has been shown to have cytochrome P450 inhibitory properties. This metabolite also shows inhibitory effects on the human immune system. 5β,7β-Dihydroxyandrosten 3β,17β-diol may be useful for treating autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. The enzyme deficiency that leads to the inability to convert 5αDHT into this metabolite is known as dehydrogenase deficiency. This condition can be treated by administering supplemental selenium or vitamin E. The optimum pH for this reaction is between 6 and 8, with an optimum temperature of 37°C.
