Descripción:6,6-Dimethyloxan-2-one is a chemical compound that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. It does this by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins. This compound has also been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi. Telomeres are protein structures located at the end of chromosomes that protect the chromosome from degradation. 6,6-Dimethyloxan-2-one is found in telomeres and may be involved in the protection of these structures. Telomeres are important for protecting cells and preventing them from becoming cancerous or dying prematurely. The mechanism by which 6,6-Dimethyloxan-2-one inhibits bacterial growth is not yet fully understood but it may involve its ability to bind to ligands and c–h bonds on bacterial cell membranes.
