Dextromethorazine is a drug that belongs to the class of 2-methoxyphenothiazines. It has a number of stereoisomers, including dextro and levo. Dextromethorazine is used as an antiemetic, sedative and antihistamine in humans and animals. It is a potent pressor agent that can be fatal if taken with another pressor agent. The sulfoxide metabolite of dextromethorphan has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against some resistant cancer cells and multidrug-resistant bacteria. The liquid chromatography method for the analysis of dextromethorphan requires an injection solution in order to wash the column between runs.
