Butyltrimethylammonium Bromide is a cationic surfactant that is soluble in water. It is used for the preparation of polymers and as a cross-linking agent. Butyltrimethylammonium Bromide is also used as a solvent, a buffer, and an electrolyte in ionic liquids. This compound can be found in tissue culture media as a nonionic cross-linking agent. A solution of butyltrimethylammonium bromide has been shown to inhibit the activity of guanylate cyclase at concentrations above 1 mM.
