It has been shown to be an effective surrogate for the amino acid L-serine in many studies. 3-Cyano-7-hydroxy-4-methylcoumarin is also an enantiomer of 7,8 -dihydroxy 4 -methyl coumarin. The biosynthesis of 3-cyano 7 -hydroxy 4 -methylcoumarin can be achieved through the synthesis of flavus and senegalensis at temperatures between 20° and 25° Celsius.
