N1,N1-Dimethyl-1,3-benzenediamine (DMBA) is a chemical that is used in the synthesis of amines. It is a white solid that absorbs ultraviolet light and reacts with air to form an oxide coating. DMBA has been shown to react as a proton donor and acceptor in acidic media. DMBA has also been used to stain cells for histochemical analysis. This chemical is not soluble in water and must be dissolved in organic solvents such as ethanol or acetone before use. The rate of reaction for DMBA depends on the concentration of potassium ions, salinity, temperature, pH, and the number of amines present.
