Isobutyl Styryl Ketone is a diketone that is used as an organic solvent and has a strong, sweet smell. Isobutyl Styryl Ketone is produced by the condensation of two molecules of acetone in the presence of hydrochloric acid. It can be further reacted with sodium hydroxide to form isobutyl ketones, which are used in fragrances. Isobutyl Styryl Ketone has been shown to have tranquilizing effects on the nervous system. This chemical may also be used in cycloadditions with aldehydes to produce cyclic compounds.
