2-(N-Methyl-N-butylamino)ethanol is a cytosolic phosphatase inhibitor. It binds to the phosphate groups of ATP, ADP, and AMP by using its filtration mechanism. This inhibition prevents the formation of ATP, ADP, and AMP that are required for protein synthesis in the cell. 2-(N-Methyl-N-butylamino)ethanol has been shown to be effective in inhibiting phosphatases in insects such as Pipiens and Drosophila melanogaster. It also inhibits glutathione reductase (GR), which is involved in regulating cellular redox state.
