2-{[4-(Dimethylamino)phenyl]methylene}-1-hydrazinecarbothioamide (HATU) is a reagent that is used for the coupling of carboxylic acids, amines, and phenols. It is soluble in water, ethanol, acetone, benzene and chloroform. HATU has been shown to form dimers with other molecules. The solubility of HATU also depends on the pH. At low pH levels it dissolves well in water, but at high pH levels it does not dissolve in water or alcohols. This reagent can be used for the synthesis of benzene rings by reaction with phenols and carboxylic acids. HATU can also be used as a catalyst for the hydrogenation of olefins with palladium and as a catalyst for the reduction of nitro compounds with diisobutylaluminum hydride (DIBA
