Ethyl 2-Ethylhexanoate is a liquid that is used as a solvent in pharmaceutical preparations. It has been shown to be a good cross-linking agent for polycarboxylic acids. Ethyl 2-Ethylhexanoate can be used as an additive in microcapsules and also acts as a cationic surfactant. This chemical has been shown to inhibit the growth of skin cells and is commonly used as an antimicrobial agent. Ethyl 2-Ethylhexanoate also has unsaturated alkyl chains, which make it more hydrophobic than other esters.
