5-Methyl-2-phenylpyridine is a phenylpyridine derivative that is used as a ligand in coordination chemistry. It can be synthesized from formaldehyde and acetonitrile with the addition of silver trifluoromethanesulfonate. 5-Methyl-2-phenylpyridine has been shown to bind to metal ions such as nickel, copper, and zinc by forming dianionic complexes.
