Solasurine is an extractive that originates from the solamargine, xanthocarpum, and nigrum species of plants. Solasurine is a potent vasodilator that relaxes blood vessels and improves blood flow to the brain. It also has mild anti-inflammatory properties and may be able to prevent or reduce asthma symptoms. Solasurine can be prepared by extracting the bulk drug from the plant with dilute alcohol. The efficiency of solasurine as a vasodilator is increased when it is combined with magnesium dilaurate, which increases its bioavailability.
