1-Phenyl-3-(phenylamino)pyrrolidine-2,5-dione is a drug that inhibits the synthesis of fatty acids. It is used to treat metabolic disorders, such as symptoms associated with type 2 diabetes and obesity. The clinical relevance of this drug has been shown in animal models for autoimmune diseases and in humans for meniscus injury. 1-Phenyl-3-(phenylamino)pyrrolidine-2,5-dione has also been shown to inhibit the growth of certain types of bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus isolates and Clostridium perfringens. 1-Phenyl-3-(phenylamino)pyrrolidine-2,5-dione also prevents body weight gain in mice that are fed a high fat diet and reduces levels of C reactive protein (CRP). There are no data on the effects on humans.
