Withanone is a natural compound that has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. It is a member of the withanolide class of lactones, which are found in plants such as Withania somnifera and Withania coagulans. Withanone has been shown to inhibit the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β), which may contribute to its anti-cancer effects. The molecular mechanisms by which withanone inhibits cancer cell growth are not well understood. However, it has been hypothesized that withanone's ability to inhibit protein synthesis may be responsible for its anti-cancer activity.
