Dammaradienyl acetate is a natural product of the fructus liquorice plant. It has been shown to have anti-tumor activity in vivo and in vitro. Dammaradienyl acetate has been shown to inhibit poliovirus type 1, which is a neurotropic virus that causes paralysis. This natural product also has an effect on the cell cycle and can cause lysis of both normal and malignant cells. Dammaradienyl acetate inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells by binding to DNA and inhibiting RNA synthesis, leading to cell death by apoptosis.
