(S)-2-Amino-2-(1-hydroxycyclopropyl)acetic acid is a carbocycle that inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to their enzyme. It has potent antibacterial activity against type species and other Gram-positive bacteria. (S)-2-Amino-2-(1-hydroxycyclopropyl)acetic acid also binds to benzyl groups in bacterial cells and prevents the synthesis of proteins, leading to cell death. This compound has been shown to have a variety of biological effects in humans, including coagulation and weevil feeding inhibition.
