The radionuclide has been shown to inhibit tumor cell function and oxysterols have been shown to have bone cancer prevention effects. 7-ketocholesterol-d7 can be used as a biomarker for CTX because it accumulates in high concentrations in cerebrospinal fluid, plasma samples, and faeces. Microenvironmental factors such as cholesterol levels also affect its concentration.
