Descripción:CIF1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the CIF1 gene. It belongs to the family of ion channels and ligand-gated ion channels. The channel is activated by acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter, and mediates fast synaptic transmission at neuromuscular junctions. CIF1 has been shown to bind to the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) subunit alpha-4/beta-2. This binding leads to inhibition of nAChR function, which may be useful for treatments of conditions such as Parkinson's disease or Alzheimer's disease.
