Descripción:Bacterial cell invasion begins by initially adhering to mucosa of the oro-intestinal, nasorespiratory, or genitourinary tract by specific adhesins. This leads to colonization of the region and ultimately infection. Studies showed acetyl-adhesin can inhibit binding of S. mutans to salivary receptors and can prevent S. mutans colonising the teeth. This suggests the peptide may be a useful antimicrobial agent against bacterial mucosal colonisation, particularly tooth decay.
