It is also an electron-deficient reagent that can be used to generate fluorine compounds. Benzyl methyl sulfone has been shown to react with nucleophilic metal ions, such as aluminum, magnesium, and zinc, to form complexes. In addition, this compound has been used as a polymerization initiator in the production of polymers and resins. This organic solvent can also be used as a reaction system in the synthesis of ccr5 receptor inhibitors. Benzyl methyl sulfone posses drug-like properties and has been shown to have activity against neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.
