5-Acetylvaleric acid is a naturally occurring organic compound that has been synthesized by the oxidative decarboxylation of 5-acetyltryptophan. The product of this reaction is an enantiomer of valeric acid. 5-Acetylvaleric acid can be used to synthesize chiral amines. This compound also has a stabilizing effect on the electrospray ionization process.
