3-Deoxyaconitine is a matrix effect chemical that is structurally related to the alkaloids. The chemical diversity of 3-deoxyaconitine includes a variety of structures, such as trifluoroacetic acid, and it has been detected in urine samples. The structural analysis of 3-deoxyaconitine has shown that it has a strong affinity for κ-opioid receptors, which are found in hematopoietic cells. 3-Deoxyaconitine also binds to fatty acids and human serum proteins. It is possible that these interactions may be the reason for the toxic effects of this compound on the kidneys and other organs.
