3,3-Dimethylpentanoic acid is a chiral compound with the molecular formula CH(CH)COOH. It is an organic acid that is naturally produced by plants and animals as a metabolic intermediate. 3,3-Dimethylpentanoic acid has been used in pharmaceuticals, dyestuffs, and carbonaceous materials. The two stereoisomers of this compound are cis-3,3-dimethylpentanoic acid and trans-3,3-dimethylpentanoic acid. The alpha form has a linear geometry whereas the beta form has a bent geometry.
