2,2,5-Trimethylhexane is a synthetic chemical that is used as an intermediate for the production of many organic chemicals. It has been shown to be a good solvent for aromatic compounds and can be used in organic synthesis as an extractant. This compound is also used in the manufacture of chlorinated solvents, such as trichloroethane and 1,1,2-trichloroethane. 2,2,5-Trimethylhexane itself has been shown to react with radiation to form a variety of oxidation products.
