• Descripción: Methyl 2,3-dibromo-2-methylpropanoate is a reagent that is used to methylate uracil. It is prepared by the addition of dicyandiamide to chloromethyl methyl ether. The resulting product undergoes an alkylation reaction with methyl methacrylate in the presence of catalytic amounts of proton and/or dicyandiamide. The product has conformational properties that are similar to its parent molecule, methyl methacrylate, but it has a lower melting point and higher solubility in organic solvents. Its nmr spectra have been found to be different from those of methyl methacrylate because it contains a proton and two methyl groups. Methyl 2,3-dibromo-2-methylpropanoate can be used for the synthesis or modification of polymers such as acrylics and vinyls or for the synthesis of other chemical compounds like dicy
