2-Vinylaniline is an organic solvent that is used in palladium complexes to catalyze the amination reaction. It is also used as a reagent in cross-coupling reactions, where it provides a highly functionalized group and readily reacts with electrophiles. The reaction mechanism for 2-vinylaniline involves nucleophilic attack by the hydroxyl group on the carbon atom adjacent to the nitrogen atom, followed by protonation of the intermediate aniline derivative by sodium carbonate. This forms a phenyl substituent, which can be converted into a hydroxy derivative through a stereoselective metathesis reaction.
