It has been shown to transport fatty acids and exhibit an activation energy of 25 kcal/mole. 2-Butyl-1-octanol has been used in clinical use as a solvent for butyric acid, which is produced by the bacterial fermentation of carbohydrates in the colon. 2-Butyl-1-octanol also has viscosity properties that make it suitable for pharmaceutical preparations. The addition of 2-Butyl-1-octanol to pharmaceutical preparations can be used as an acid catalyst or as an organic solution.
