4-Methylpyrogallol is a compound that has been used as an antidiabetic agent. It has been shown to decrease the glomerular filtration rate in diabetic patients. 4-Methylpyrogallol has been shown to be a corrosion inhibitor, and it also has anti-inflammatory activities. It is not yet known whether this compound can be used as a therapeutic agent for bowel disease or metal surface corrosion. 4-Methylpyrogallol may have potential use in treating drug reactions because of its ability to inhibit gamma-aminobutyric acid release from neurons.
