- 4,4-dimethoxytetrahydro-2H-pyran
4,4-Dimethoxytetrahydro-4H-pyran is a 4-carbon compound with four asymmetric carbon atoms. It is an analog of tetrahydropyran, which has two methyl groups on the central carbon. The acetyl group on one side of the central carbon is replaced by a trimethylsilyl group. This modification leads to a higher yield in the preparation of 4,4-dimethoxytetrahydro-4H-pyran and its subsequent conversion to other compounds such as acetals and ketals. 4,4-Dimethoxytetrahydro-4H-pyran can be used in the synthesis of ribonucleosides that are needed for DNA replication. Another use is in the synthesis of acyclic acetals that are important reagents for organic synthesis.
