It has been shown to inhibit the growth of granule neurons and to have neurotrophic effects on cultured cells. This drug also has anti-inflammatory properties and inhibits acetylcholine release in rat erythrocytes. The molecular mechanism of action is not well understood, but it may be due to its ability to activate transcription-polymerase chain reactions.
