- (2R)-6-hydroxy-2,5,7,8-tetramethyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-chromene-2-carboxylic acid
(R)-(+)-6-Hydroxy-2,5,7,8-tetramethylchroman-2-carboxylic acid (HMCA) is a supplement that is used to treat cancer. HMCA is an acetyl donor and can be used as a substitute for erythromycin. HMCA was shown to inhibit the growth of human breast cancer cells in culture by reacting with lorazepam and lipase to form a reactive intermediate. This compound has been immobilized on ion-exchange resin for use in biodegradable materials and can be used for the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
