S-(-)-Methylindazone is a reactive cytosolic calcium ionophore that induces the release of calcium ions from intracellular stores. It has been shown to induce mitochondrial membrane potential loss in t84 cells, which may be due to its ability to alter the pH and chloride concentration of the cytosol. S-(-)-Methylindazone also induces an increase in free intracellular calcium ions (Ca2+) and intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels. The Ca2+ channel IAA-94 is activated by this agent, leading to channel opening and increased influx of extracellular ions. S-(-)-Methylindazone can be used as a model system for myocardial infarction and has been shown to inhibit K+ channels at the apical membrane.
