1-Butyn-3-yl p-toluenesulfonate is a compound that has been used as an intermediate in organic synthesis. This reaction has been shown to produce benzene, potassium hydroxide, erythro, ether, and alkylation products. The rearrangement of the benzene ring can be performed by using Lindlar catalyst to form the phenolic or diastereoisomeric products. This transformation can also be accomplished using hydroxide solution or potassium in the presence of a lindlar catalyst. The 1-butyn-3-yl p-toluenesulfonate molecule is planar and contains two adjacent chiral centers. The molecule can exist as a mixture of two diastereoisomers due to the symmetry of its molecular structure.
