Descripción

Cytochalasin J is a cytochalasin that belongs to the group of plant-derived substances. It has been used to study the effects on cell division and tissue culture. Cytochalasin J inhibits mitosis by binding to microtubules, causing them to form bundles or clumps that block the movement of chromosomes in metaphase. Restenosis, which is the narrowing of an artery after angioplasty, may be prevented by using cytochalasin J as an anti-thrombotic agent. Cytochalasin J may also have a role in the prevention of atherosclerosis and thromboembolic complications. Cytochalasin J can be used for treatment of metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus and hypercholesterolemia. The molecule inhibits cholesterol synthesis and reduces glucose production by inhibiting glycolysis, leading to decreased levels of circulating lipids and glucose.
