• Descripción: Droxicainide is a fatty acid ester that has been used in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. It works by binding to the calcium channel and preventing the passage of calcium ions into the cell, which prevents contractility. Droxicainide is not absorbed when taken orally and must be administered intravenously. This drug is typically given as a single dose, but may be given over a period of up to 24 hours. Droxicainide can also be given as an implantable long-term therapy for patients with chronic heart failure or atrial fibrillation. Droxicainide has been shown to be effective in reducing plasma concentrations of fatty alcohols and reconstituted pharmaceutical dosage forms containing fatty acids.
