19-Hydroxybaccatin III is a natural product that exhibits antitumor activity and has been isolated from an endophytic fungus found in the bark of the cephalotaxus tree. The compound has been shown to inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in human cancer cells. 19-Hydoxybaccatin III also inhibits the growth of cell lines resistant to docetaxel, 10-deacetylbaccatin, sumatrana, and other chemotherapeutic agents. It also affects cell morphology by inducing mitotic arrest. This compound is labile and can be degraded by n-hexane or carbonyl group.
