Indolizine-2-carbonitrile is a synthetic compound that has been shown to inhibit the replication of wild-type viruses, such as influenza A virus. It is an inhibitor of the enzyme RNA polymerase and prevents the transcription and replication of viral RNA. Indolizine-2-carbonitrile has been shown to be effective against resistant strains of influenza A virus by inhibiting the viral RNA polymerase. This drug also inhibits other non-nucleoside reverse transcriptases, such as HIV and HTLV, by binding to their active site. Indolizine-2-carbonitrile has optical properties that make it a potential candidate for use in optoelectronic devices.
