9,10-Bis(3,5-dihydroxyphenyl)anthracene is an electron acceptor that can be used in the viologen redox system. It is soluble in organic solvents and has a hydrophobic character that enables it to bind to dendrimers and other hydrophobic surfaces. 9,10-Bis(3,5-dihydroxyphenyl)anthracene is synthesized by the recrystallization of anthracene with formaldehyde.
