The cross-coupling reaction of this compound with trifluoromethanesulfonates leads to the formation of 3,5,6-trichloro-[2,2'-bipyridine]-2,2'-dicarboxylic acid (TBDPS), which is an active form of 3OHMPA. TBDPS disrupts the cancer cell's energy metabolism and induces apoptosis by binding to DNA and inhibiting DNA synthesis.
