HGF is a growth factor that stimulates the growth of cells, particularly those involved in the formation and maintenance of connective tissues. It has been shown to be an important regulator of cardiac muscle cell proliferation, differentiation, and survival. HGF also plays a role in the development and maintenance of skin cells. HGF is secreted by adipose tissue and may play a role in the development of cancer by stimulating cell proliferation. HGF binds to its receptor on target cells, which triggers cellular signalling via tyrosine kinase receptors, leading to cellular responses such as increased DNA synthesis. The most common form of HGF is recombinant human HGF (rh-HGF), which is used as a test compound in experiments on animals for various purposes, including treatments for bronchial asthma.
