• Descripción: Pyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-7-carbonitrile (PPY) is a hydrogen-bond donor that has been shown to have neurotrophic activity. PPY binds to the chemokine receptors CXCR4 and CCR5 on the surface of human cells and blocks their activation by HIV. In addition, PPY suppresses the growth of cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. PPY has also been found to be an effective anti-viral agent against herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). It inhibits viral replication by blocking viral entry into the cell, preventing transcription, or inhibiting viral protein synthesis. This drug may be administered as a neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy for head and neck cancer. The tautomeric form of this drug is important for its biological activity and must be taken into account when designing assays for PPY.
