Pinocembrin chalcone is a naturally-occurring fatty acid with the chemical formula C20H32O4. It has been shown to have structural and inhibitory effects on polymerase chain reactions. Pinocembrin chalcone also has antimicrobial properties, which may be due to its ability to inhibit bacterial growth by binding to the 3'-hydroxyl group of the ribose sugar in DNA. The hydroxy group in pinocembrin chalcone can react with amino groups found in proteins and other molecules, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. Pinocembrin chalcone has been shown to reduce collagen production, which may be attributed to its ability to inhibit the enzyme hydroxylase.
