3,5-Dimethyl-3-hexanol is an organic compound that is the product of a reaction involving a proton and alkoxy radical. It has been shown to interact with a variety of compounds such as carboxylic acids and alcohols. 3,5-Dimethyl-3-hexanol is used in the synthesis of other organic compounds by way of an isomerization reaction. It can be used for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) because it has a high magnetic susceptibility and does not interfere with MRI images. 3,5-Dimethyl-3-hexanol also has been shown to have low molecular weight and functional groups that make it useful in many applications. The geometric isomers are linear, which makes them more easily studied through linear regression analysis than if they were branched or cyclic. There are many potential sources of pollution from this chemical, including its use in paint strippers and plastics manufacture.
