N-Benzylpyrimidin-2-amine is an effective drug for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease. It belongs to the class of antimycobacterial drugs and has shown a potent anti-inflammatory effect in animal models. N-Benzylpyrimidin-2-amine inhibits the synthesis of proteins that are necessary for cancer growth, such as chloride channel proteins, which play a role in regulating the flow of water and electrolytes into cells. This drug also has a bactericidal effect on influenza virus at concentrations lower than those needed for inhibiting protein synthesis.
