1,4-Butane diisothiocyanate is a reactive compound with the molecular formula CHSNCO. It is a crystalline solid at room temperature and pressure. 1,4-Butane diisothiocyanate has been used in the synthesis of some pharmaceuticals and as an intermediate for polymerization reactions. This chemical also has biological activity, such as its ability to react with histidine residues on proteins to form isothiocyanates, which have been shown to have anticarcinogenic properties. 1,4-Butane diisothiocyanate reacts with ethylene to produce polyethylene glycols, which are used in emulsions and plates.
